Crisscross Lacing: The New Spring 2015 Fashion Trend

Fashion

Crisscross lacing is among the hottest spring/ summer 2015 fashion trends, appearing not only on footwear options for creating dazzling lace-up designs, but also acting as the primary accent for a range of clothing pieces presented by fashion giants. Inspired from the common sneaker styles, lacing acts as an amazing detail for adding extravaganza and seductiveness to stylish corsets, flowing blouses, dresses and even knitted sweaters. Some of them carry distinctive ‘70s style inspirations, while others stand out with the dramatic and edgy looks they manage to create. Check out some of the coolest designs with crisscross lacing and learn how to wear clothing with lace-up details in the new fashion season!

Crisscross Lacing: The New Spring 2015 Fashion Trend

Oversized and Bold Lace-Up Designs

While in the majority of cases lace-up details act as small accents for complementing unique fashion designs, others come in more attention-grabbing forms being the primary thing you notice in a piece of clothing. Thus, in case of Gucci lace-up details come oversized for a bolder effect, looking especially cool in combination with the Seventies denim pieces. Used in the color of white, these details perfectly complement the denim dress and the denim jacket, holding together the slashes on the back sides of the jacket and the deep V neck of the dress. The same big lace-up details have also been combined with more sophisticated clothing pieces, like the Crimson lace dress, the white lace top and the bottle green leather dress. Here, they come in the same colors as the pieces, perfectly blending in with the background.

Sensual and Unique Lacing

Riccardo Tisci’s spring 2015 collection was memorable and jaw-dropping and lovely lacing details used surely contributed to the uniqueness of the designs presented. They look more sensual and feminine here, embellishing the deep V-necks and the unexpected slits on the midriff of the dresses and tops. Especially romantic is the airy white see-through top with the lacing combined with the tiny eyelets. We also love the corset-esque look lacing creates appearing on the front part of the white and black tops. Lacing was also the key detail for the footwear options, which added so much drama and edginess to those leather boots.

Baroque and Provence Influences

Some designers used lace-up details for creating specific baroque and Provence styles in their collections for a bigger impact. Thus, Dolce & Gabbana turned to tiny lacing for decorating the baroque style corset in the timeless black color, which looked so spectacular in combination with the black stockings and the vintage black bra. On the other hand, Provence was the main theme of the white floaty dress of Louis Vuitton, which was skillfully embellished with black-and-white crisscross lacing. These are two totally contrasting and different looks, which praise the beauty of lace-up details equally well.

Corset-esque and Seventies Lacing

Corset-esque lacing can also look unique in combination with more elegant and stricter clothing pieces with subtle masculine influences. This is what we learn from the pinstriped white blazer decorated with front lace-up detailing spotted at Jean Paul Gaultier’s very last ready-to-wear fashion show. It looks powerful and creative and is a good piece to elevate your casual looks or tone down your office outfits. And if you are looking for ways of wearing the season’s biggest trend – Seventies, you can make it more creative spicing things up with lacing details, like we see it in case of this Costume National dark brown suede ensemble.

Spring/ Summer 2015 Fashion Trends: Crisscross Lacing

The Totally Distinctive Form of Lacing

Tighter and smaller forms of lacing or whip-stitching can take a simple white top to a whole new level. This 3.1. Phillip Lim top is a statement piece not only thanks to the creative fusion of different textures in a single design, but also the most unique way of holding those two together. And if you are more into simplistic, yet powerful pieces, than this white knitted oversized sweater with a big side slit and catchy lace-up detailing is the go-to piece for building up both casual and more feminine looks. Victoria Beckham definitely knows how to make a statement using minimalist designs and details!

Spring/ Summer 2015 Fashion Trends: Crisscross Lacing

These are just some very cool ways of wearing the season’s hit trend, however, you can be sure to see more creative designs with crisscross lacing both from high-street retailers and more luxury brands.

Nicki Minaj for Roberto Cavalli Spring 2015 Campaign

Fashion

Nicki Minaj is the face of the Roberto Cavalli spring/summer 2015 ad campaign, following Rita Ora, who was the muse for the Italian luxury brand for the fall/winter season. Photographed in sunny Los Angeles by Francesco Carrozzini, she looks strong, retro, sexy and mysterious in a number of dynamic and colorful shots with a colorful background. In the photos, she dons some of the most iconic pieces from the Roberto Cavalli spring/summer 2015 collection, including maxi dresses in different shades, as well as a nude separate with chic embroidery.

Nicki Minaj for Roberto Cavalli Spring 2015 Campaign

Talking about their choice of the new muse, Roberto Cavalli has stated: “I chose Nicki Minaj because she embodies the exuberant and modern femininity of the Cavalli woman. In recent years, we have become accustomed to women castigated in clothes that hide their body shapes. With this campaign, I wanted to send a strong countertrend message. I wanted a sensual woman who is aware of her body, who is not afraid to show her curves — rather, she turns them into her strength.”

With her jet-black bob hair styled into an outrageous bouffant style and matched with black eyeliner, Nicki looks show-stopping in these photos, also posing lying on a piece of luxury fur, which has always defined Cavalli’s style (remember their trademark animal motifs). Other than demonstrating the hottest Cavalli dresses from their new season collection, Minaj is also placing the focus on the importance of accessories, which are wild, eye-catching and bold like the style ideology of the fashion house is. A spectacular fur bag, another one in the golden reptile skin, metallic heeled sandals, killer sunglasses and jewelry pieces perfect her Cavalli looks, giving more luxury and glamour to the overall Roberto Cavalli spring 2015 campaign.

It has been proved multiple times that the correctly chosen brand ambassadors can bring so much profit and success to the fashion brand, and it’s not by chance that for the new season Givenchy has tapped Julia Roberts as its faceVersace has asked Madonna to star in their new ad campaign, while Roberto Cavalli decided to bring sensation to the fashion world picking such a powerful muse for their new promotional photos as Nicki Minaj. We are more than sure this collaboration is going to be more than fruitful (just check the popularity of Minaj’s “Anaconda” video clip and you’ll get it). The full Roberto Cavalli spring 2015 campaign starring Nicki Minaj will appear in the January editions of international publications.

Alice + Olivia Pre-Fall 2015 Collection

Fashion

The Alice + Olivia pre-fall 2015 collection was inspired from Loulou de la Falaise, the famous Seventies style icon and the muse to Yves Saint Laurent. “I loved her eccentricity and her strength,” said Stacey Bendet, the creative director at Alice + Olivia. “She wasn’t a passive person.” She skillfully managed to combine Falaise’s charming bohemian style with the femininity of the Forties getting a unique conglomeration of patterns, colors, shapes and design details that instantly charm. “A lot of the fabrics have a vintage feel, but everything is mixed up to be made modern,” Bendet explained. “She was this very powerful woman, and I wanted the clothes to feel strong.”

Alice + Olivia Pre-Fall 2015 CollectionBendet is well known for her skill to show a variety of trends, styles, fabrics and patterns in a single collection and although the new Alice + Olivia pre-fall 2015 collection has a single muse, it still manages to surprise with the diversity of the pieces available. The collection starts with a riot of pieces decorated with mosaic and baroque patterns and splashes of bright shades, including orange, red and aqua blue. The Seventies gypsy vibe is present throughout this range of pieces, from the high-waisted printed maxi skirt matched with a delicate see-through black top and the V-neck printed maxi dress with an asymmetric hemline to the lush brocade full skirt in a bright orange shade and cut at the tea-length, which is boldly paired with a brightly printed V-neck blouse. The floral brocade knee-length dress is quite modest and can be a great fit for formal parties too, despite looking slightly eye-popping thanks to the bright orange shade used. When topped with a colorfully graphic patterned poncho, it looks even bolder and folksy.

The navy blue palazzo pants matched with a flowing blouse in the same shade are just a dream for those big fans of the elegant and feminine style with minimalistic accents. Then we also discover more Seventies inspirations, including suede pieces, folksy vest and ponchos, a gypsy-style leopard printed maxi skirt, a disco-ready sequined mini dress and high-waisted skirts skillfully teamed with turtleneck cropped tops or skin-tights sweaters. Army green used for an array of stylish designs brings military motifs to the scene, which look simply spectacular spiced up with retro and feminine vibes.

Alice + Olivia Pre-Fall 2015 Collection

Perfectly tailored suiting and lace and handkerchief maxi dresses provide classiness to the entire Alice + Olivia pre-fall 2015 collection, while the occasionally used leopard patterns and snakeskin motifs give a subtle wilderness to the designs. And we surely love those fringed black skirts coming in different lengths and looking so special and luxe. Once again Bendet has managed to present a collection that targets different tastes and styles.

Elie Saab Pre-Fall 2015 Collection

Fashion

No one does feminine fashion as breathtakingly as Elie Saab does. We always expect couture-like designs from the Lebanese fashion designer no matter it’s a haute couture presentation, spring or summer collections or ones designed for the in-between seasons. The Elie Saabpre-fall 2015 collection came up to our expectations and our eyes were pleased at the sight of these divine, totally out-of-this-world dresses and separates. For the new transitional season, the designer wanted to break the common rules and bring something totally unexpected as to what we are used to seeing. As he said: “Pre-collections are becoming increasingly important for the brand. Our customers are constantly looking for standout and unique pieces.”

Elie Saab Pre-Fall 2015 Collection

“Folk fantasy with modern nomad in mind” is the theme of the brand-new Elie Saab pre-fall 2015 collection, which brings luxurious floral patterns and embroidery, dresses with breathtaking full skirts, lots of fine lace, harvest inspirations and luxurious fur. Whether it’s a little black dress, some tailored trousers or a refined gown, every single piece in the collection seems to have been made with special and luxurious occasions in mind, and they all target those classy women with an exquisite taste who have multiple occasions to sport them.

For the undeniably luxurious appeal Saab picked only rich colors for his designs, from the timeless black and red to juicy purple. There were also pieces drenched in soft dusty pink shade that looked so sober and elegant. It was the shade of a strappy beaded gown with a thin belt on the waist, a full skirt dress teamed with a little fur jacket, a similar style only with a shortened length, a sizzling coat with fur sleeves and many other designs that stood out with their exquisite designs and intricate detailing.

The folksy motif was present in each and every design showcased, whether it was a piece featuring fox fur, horsehair or brocade with floral patchwork, whether it was a dress or a chic outerwear designed to make an equally big statement. No wonder, the Elie Saab pre-fall 2015 collection was pretty to bits and the right thing the brand’s customers look for every season.
